Frequently Asked Questions

What are your shows like?
Shows are typically 70 minutes, no intermission, and feature 6-8 different dance companies from all over Queens. After each show, we have a “QDF Danceback,” a brief dance lesson led by one of the dance companies and all are welcome to participate! There’s a different lineup combination of dance companies at every show, so you can see something new each time. We invite you to follow us along our tour!
Are your shows free?
Yes, all our outdoor programming and nearly all dance classes are free. Exceptions are master classes for professional dancers, and our Season Finale weekend at Queens Theatre. In an effort to remain financially accessible, master classes are often subsidized at $10 and Season Finale tickets are $25, with discounts for seniors, students, and veterans. Follow us on Instagram and sign up for our newsletter for more flash discounts!
How do I get to your events?
In our events calendar, we post the address or google map link under each event, as well as the closest public transportation and ADA accessible stations. It will also be indicated what type of parking will be available, if any.
Are your events welcoming to audiences with disabilities and ADA accessible?

Yes, as our events take place in public space, all of our locations welcome audiences who use wheelchairs and other mobility devices and are ADA accessible. ASL and closed captioning will be provided at some of our performances and we hope to raise more money to provide these services at all events. Events that will provide ASL and closed captioning will be indicated on our calendar. For further accessibility questions and needs, please reach out to us at queensborodancefestival@gmail.com or (929) 282-0620.

What happens if it’s raining the day of the event?
Weather changes very quickly, especially in the summer! We are generally rain or shine, but if there is extreme weather such as heavy rain, wind, or heat, we will cancel the show at least 4 hours before showtime. Cancellations will be announced on our Instagram and Facebook stories and website. If you RSVP’d on Eventbrite, you will get a direct e-mail notification. If a show is cancelled, there is no raindate. Catch us at the next event! Stay in touch with us for any event updates and announcements.
How can I find out what dance companies are performing at each event?
Each event’s lineup will be posted in our event calendar. We also announce the lineup on our Instagram and Facebook the week of the show. At the show, we’ll have the featured dance companies listed on a sidewalk sign or poster. You can also view or download a free digital program of the day’s show on our website by scanning the QR code available on location at the show or clicking on the link in our Instagram bio. Show lineups are subject to last minute changes.
How can I find out more about this year’s dance companies in general?

Check out [Meet the Dancers] and click on the dance companies’ photos for more information!

What should I bring to the outdoor shows?
Most locations don’t have formal show seating; there may be park benches, grass, or concrete. Depending on location, we suggest bringing a lawn chair or picnic blanket, sun hat/sunglasses, sunscreen, and water
Can I participate in the dance classes?
Yes, we offer dance classes throughout the summer. Our outdoor series is geared toward the general public where little to no dance experience is required. Our indoor series (studio) is geared toward the professional dance community. See more details on our calendar. We also have a brief audience dance lesson, called a QDF Danceback, after each show!
How can I support Queensboro Dance Festival and its artists?
Please consider donating $10 to join our 10×10 campaign! 2023 is our 10th Anniversary Season, and we’re looking for 100 individuals to give $10 for 10 months. Donate [here] and select monthly. You can also support us for free by following us on Instagram, and telling friends to come see our shows. Funds raised pays the dancers, crew, and keeps our programming free for all. With every bit of support, we can keep serving our Queens community. It takes a boro!
How many dance groups are in Queens anyway?
A LOT more than one might realize! We have presented over 140 Queens-based dance groups to date, and we know there are many more out there, reflecting the immense diversity of Queens cultures and artists. If you know any Queens dancers, please let them know about our festival!
Did you know?
